The Foundation for Inclusive Religious Education of West Virginia (FIRE WV) was founded in 2014 by a group of parents who shared a common dream – children with special needs who wanted to attend their parish schools with siblings and friends.

The group has secured a dedicated board of directors and community members who embrace inclusive Catholic education, and who are committed to helping raise the funds necessary to make this dream a reality.  FIRE WV will offer financial grants to qualifying schools within the Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston. These grants assist with the cost of special education teachers, para-educators and resources, enabling schools to educate children with special needs alongside their peers.

FIRE WV will enhance the education of all children by teaching acceptance, compassion, and the value of every child of God. Children will grow up knowing and appreciating each other’s unique gifts.

If you would like to get involved in the program, please contact the Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Vincent de Paul Schmidt, at vschmidt@dwc.org or (304) 233-0880 ext. 318.
